Back in the Game: David's Comeback Story
How one defining moment inspired a patient to choose a path toward strength, stability and a life he loves
For most of his life, David Cullity pushed through pain. As a former professional athlete, it felt like part of the game. But in his 50s, the aches he once brushed off became something he could no longer ignore.
Then, came the moment that changed everything.
One afternoon on the golf course, David knelt down to pick up his ball. His knee suddenly buckled, sending him to the ground. In that split second, one thought hit him harder than the fall itself. What if I had been holding one of my grandkids?
That question became his turning point.
Determined to take back his life, David met with his doctor and together, made the decision to pursue a total knee replacement using the Persona® Knee, a knee replacement designed to match each patient’s unique anatomy for a more natural fit, feel and function. Once he decided to move forward, David was all in — attending every physical therapy session, sticking to the exercises and seeing progress week after week.
Today, nearly five years after surgery, that commitment has paid off. David is back on the golf course, keeping up with his grandkids and moving with confidence and energy he once feared he had lost for good.
David often tells others dealing with knee pain that waiting was the hardest part and that he wishes he had taken action sooner.
