Marcel Eichenberger and Ivan Moscatiello | Sustainable Waste Innovators
Manufacturing Senior Engineer Marcel Eichenberger and Warehouse Team Leader Ivan Moscatiello teamed up to tackle metal waste in a smarter way. Ivan’s diploma thesis laid the groundwork for converting metal chips into compact briquettes, and Marcel brought the concept to life by designing and procuring the full plant setup needed to make the briquettes. Ivan also improved hazardous-waste disposal processes, creating a safer and more efficient waste station. Their collaboration helped to streamline their supply chain and reduce their carbon footprint by more than 70%, demonstrating how frontline innovation can lead to smarter, greener solutions.
Zimmer Biomet Taiwan | Green Movement Trailblazers
In 2024, Zimmer Biomet team members in Taiwan launched the “Green Partner Initiative,” a bold effort that connects healthcare innovation with environmental stewardship. As part of the program, the team leased a 12,000-square-meter area to plant thousands of trees. Each tree represents a joint replacement procedure performed with a qualifying Zimmer Biomet knee implant, turning clinical impact into environmental action. Affectionally dubbed “Trees for Knees,” this initiative is a powerful example of the ways our team members bring purpose to life, making a meaningful difference for the planet and for patients around the world.
Jacob Macke | Native Plant Advocate and Monarch Defender
What began as a backyard erosion issue at his home became a full-fledged conservation effort and native-plant passion for Jacob Macke, Principal Development Engineer. Today, he runs a native plant nursery and collaborates with local organizations in his native Warsaw, Indiana to install pollinator gardens and manage forest trails. His advocacy even inspired a collaborative prairie restoration project at Zimmer Biomet. “Native plants aren’t just pretty,” Jacob said. “They have a purpose – they protect our waterways, provide food and shelter for pollinators and wildlife and help restore balance to ecosystems that have been disrupted.” You can learn more about Jacob’s work in this recent spotlight by The Watershed Foundation.
